Semaglutide For Weight Loss

What is Semaglutide?
Semaglutide is a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) agonist. This means it helps your body stimulate insulin production after glucose (sugar) intake, delays gastric emptying then lowers the amount of glucagon released. This helps to lower and control high blood sugar but also curb appetite.
Who can take Semaglutide?
Currently FDA has approved semaglutide for Type II diabetics, BMI greater than 30, or BMI 27 or greater plus a secondary health condition due to obesity such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or heart disease. If you are not in this category that’s OK! Our physician will assess you, order lab work, and decide if you are an appropriate candidate for semaglutide.
How do I take Semaglutide?
After your consultation with our physician and once you are approved to begin, you’ll start visiting our office weekly. During each appointment, our doctor or nurses administer a small injection into the subcutaneous tissue—such as the stomach, thigh, or back of the arm. The needle is tiny and causes minimal discomfort, making the process quick and easy. Your dose is gradually increased so your body can adjust to the medication, allowing us to monitor side effects and determine the correct level for you. Once your maintenance dose is established, you’ll continue with weekly injections to support your progress. As you reach your goals, you and our physician will work together to create a long-term care plan that helps you maintain results. To further support your journey, we also recommend incorporating protein powder drinks, which can promote fullness, support muscle health, and make it easier to stay on track with your nutrition.
Who should not take Semaglutide?
1. Type 1 diabetics
2. Personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer; any cancer to thyroid, pituitary, or adrenal glands.
3. Allergic to semaglutide

What are the Side Effects?
The most common side effects of semaglutide are mild gastrointestinal issues such as nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea, which occur due to delayed gastric emptying. At our office, we have medications and strategies available to help manage these symptoms effectively. Less common side effects may include low blood sugar, headache, dizziness, vision changes, or kidney and gallbladder concerns. This is why we monitor your progress closely—to minimize risks and catch any potential problems early. While weekly visits allow us to provide the highest level of support, we understand that not everyone can make it in every week. For those clients, we offer flexible options to help you stay on track with your plan. If you’re ready to embrace a healthier lifestyle, contact us to schedule a consultation with our physician and begin your weight loss journey at iLamai Medical Spa and Wellness Center.
